Basic Information

Mapping Appreciation Project is a 4v4 international tournament using double elimination format. All matches take place between Friday 23:59 UTC and Monday 23:59 UTC on their designated weekends.


Tournament Structure

Double Elimination Bracket

  • Teams need two losses to be eliminated
  • One loss moves a team to the losers’ bracket
  • Teams in losers’ bracket must win to continue
  • Teams in losers’ bracket must play two matches per week after Round of 16
  • Grand Finals features winners’ bracket champion vs losers’ bracket champion

Async matches are available as a last resort option only. Teams must provide evidence of scheduling conflicts to Internal Affairs (@RaiRei) and receive *explicit approval. This option is discouraged as it requires significant additional staff resources.


Match Format Overview

The Mapping Appreciation Project employs the “Corsace Open” match format. All matches follow a structured protect, ban, and pick system.

The pick/ban sequence and rules for all match types are illustrated below:

Match Process

1. Initial Rolls

  • At match start, captains use !roll when prompted
  • Highest roll winner will:
    • Protect second
    • Ban second
    • Pick first
  • Equal rolls: Repeat until winner determined

2. Protection and Pick Order

  1. Roll loser protects first map
  2. Roll winner protects their map
  3. Roll loser bans their map
  4. Roll winner bans their map
  5. Teams alternate picks, starting with roll winner
  6. Continue alternating through ban phases until winner determined

3. Ban Phases

Second Ban Phase
  • Occurs after first 4 maps
  • Ban order by score:
    • Leading team bans first
    • If tied (2-2), winner of 4th map bans first
  • Each team bans 1 map

4. Pick Rules and Match Continuation

Pick Limitations

  • Double picks (selecting two maps from the same mod pool consecutively) are allowed
  • Triple picks (selecting three maps from the same mod pool consecutively) are not allowed
  • Double bans (banning two maps from the same mod pool) are allowed
  • Triple bans (banning three maps from the same mod pool) are not allowed
Rounds up to Semifinals
  • Continue picks after second ban phase
  • Play until winner determined
Finals and Grand Finals
  • Third ban phase after next 4 maps
  • Same ban rules as second phase
  • Each team bans 1 map
  • Continue until winner determined

5. Tiebreaker

If both teams are one point from winning, play designated Tiebreaker (TB) map.

Scoring Rules

  • Winner: Highest team score after mod multipliers
  • Tied scores: Replay map with same rosters

Freemod Rules

Teams must follow these player roles for freemod maps:

Player 1 True Freemod: Any mod combination (NM, HD, HR, HDHR, etc.)
Player 2 Hidden mod required
Player 3 HardRock mod required
Player 4 Forced mod: Must use either:
• HD, HR, or HDHR
• EZ (1.8x score multiplier)
